The SpecterDR 1/4x Optical Sight is recognized as the world's most advanced combat optical rifle sight. Effectively two rifle sights in one, the SpecterDR can be switched instantly from a 4x long-range sight to a 1x wide field-of-view CQB sight. Unlike sights with zoom mechanisms, both the eye relief and the optical design remain optimal. The battery-powered LED illumination system has two ranges: one that illuminated the entire crosshair for long range low light use, and another that illuminates just a red dot in the center for CQB applications. Zeroing functions are incorporated in the integral mount and the sight attaches to Mil-Std-1913 'Picatinny' receivers with ARMS Levers. The reticle is ballistically compensated for 5.56 or 7.62 mm.

This optical sight was developed specifically for the United States Army and is in wide service on M240 and M249 machine guns. With the special M4 reticle option it is also in service on M4 Carbines. Designed as a lighter and more compact replacement for the 3.4x series of rifle sights, the SpecterOS can be supplied with either a ballistically-calibrated reticle or calibrated external elevation and windage adjustments and various models may be supplied with M16 handle or Picatinny Rail attachment mechanisms. All feature rubber bumpers as well as the proprietary RAF (Rapid Aiming Feature) Reticle that provides ideal accomodation for both long range and CQB applications. Reticles are illuminated with battery-powered LED, and may be user adjusted through a broad range of visible and night vision compatable settings. Incorporating an adjustable illuminated dot reticle and generous field of view, it is particularly suited for CQB and FIBUA applications. A one-piece aluminum housing coupled with shock-absorbing rubber bumpers enable the sight to withstand the severe stresses of modern combat operations. The device can be supplied with external ballistic compensation and windage knobs as well as MIL-STD-1913 auxiliary mounting rails.
